Shadow work is out. Here’s what we’re doing instead… 🧪✨

Hey Beautiful,

Words are magic. The language we choose creates the reality we live in—and as I continue to eradicate shame from my own life and leadership, I’ve been looking closely at the words we use in healing spaces.

For decades, "Shadow Work" gave us a framework to look at the parts of ourselves we tend to hide. I deeply honor that history. But I’ve realized something crucial about how that phrase lands:

When we automatically label our hidden, raw, or unexamined parts as "the shadow," we can inadvertently trigger a shame spiral. It implies that these parts are inherently dark, scary, or dirty—like something that belongs locked away in a closet.

Here is my truth: There is zero shame in having parts of yourself in the closet. It’s a brilliant and valuable protective strategy. It has been important to keep you safe. But, it is important to look at these hidden parts and see if it is still needed to hide these parts of you away. Sometimes it becomes more detrimental to keep these colorful, bright and maybe weird (as in unique) parts of you hidden, instead of shining in all your glory.

Keeping something private, quiet, or protected is a valid, sacred choice. Sometimes a part of you needs safety, time, or quiet space to incubate before it’s ready for the world. Privacy isn't wrong; it’s self-care.

The shift happens when staying hidden is no longer a conscious choice, but a fear response driven by unexamined shame. That’s when we end up feeling split, sneaky, and easily triggered.

Light & Dark Are Not Separate

If calling a part of yourself "your dark side" feels spicy, delicious, and empowering for you to reclaim—keep it! Embrace it. Love it!

But if that language feels heavy, oppressive, or restrictive to you? Let it go.

Here’s my experience—and it might be yours, too:

Light and dark are not separate forces fighting inside you.

You don't have to "fix" or "defeat" your dark side to step into the light. YOU and your full-spectrum expression ARE the light. 💡

When you stop treating your wildness, your boundary-pushing desires, your intensity, or your raw vulnerability as "bad" or "scary" and bring them into the open on your terms, you don't become dangerous.

You become:

 * ⚡️ Expansive

 * ⚡️ Powerful

 * ⚡️ Playful

 * ⚡️ Fully Expressed

When hidden parts meet the light in a safe container, secrecy transforms into playfulness, isolation turns into authentic connection, and secret shame turns into deep, unshakeable pride.

Step Into The Relationship Lab 🧪🔥

This is why my work isn't about digging around in the dark or forcing you into rigid boxes.

I host a Relationship Lab—a grounded, relational space where we throw out the old labels of "good" or "bad," "right" or "wrong."

Together, we look at what you’ve stored away. We honor your pacing, practice real harm reduction, and design a safe, aligned path for you to bring all of yourself into integrity and expression.

You don't need to be fixed. You just need a place to practice being fully, safely you.

How does this land in your body today?

Does the phrase "Full-Spectrum Integration" feel more liberating than "Shadow Work"? What’s one part of yourself you’re holding close right now, and what would it look like to start planning its reveal?

Hit reply and let me know. How this resonates with you truly matters to me.

With love and full-spectrum radiance,

Rachel Levesque Somatica® Certified Sex and Relationship Coach
